Historical & Political
This first image, Adolf Hitler sitting in judgment of Christ and Moses, chained together, was one of thirty-five paintings vandalized at a Long Beach, California gallery after Mrs. Dorothy Rumsey, an attandant at the gallery, was warned by a man to remove several paintings or something would happen to the display. A “wire story” had been printed in the media (1941);
The Red Monkey sitting atop the world expressed deeper feelings expressed by Hungarian-born American Goode: the “red monkey, cruel and stark in its hues of red, represents Communism in a world that is flying through space”;
It looks as if Albert Einstein with SS guard listening could also have been one of the 35 paintings that were mutilated, but there are no marks on the back of the canvas to indicate this;
The drawing of Albert Einstein with violin was done by Goode in 1936 . . . among Einstein’s talents were the violin and piano;
Numerous additional historical depictions were etched and glazed onto ceramic places, not all are shown here . . . should you have any questions regarding a particular theme, or historical figure, please let us know.
